One of Life’s Lessons

Filed under: Everything Else, Life in the Sticks — candid reflections @ 9:28 am

I was out the other evening, walking the back forty (more realisticaly – back four, I’ve just always wanted to say that) when I came across these two marked graves.

I’d never noticed them here before, but I was pretty sure that I knew the occupants of these two resting places.

Do you remember back in May when I posted pictures of our adorable baby chicks?  Well, you can’t tell it from the pictures, but two of our baby chicks came to us deformed.  And if being crippled wasn’t bad enough, they had the rest of the brood attacking them… just because they were a little different and weak… ruthless, I tell ya!  I guess it dosen’t matter what walk of life you’re from, there’s always gonna be a bully… just waiting to come out of the woodwork (or wood chips in this case.)

Anyway,  my kiddos had great compassion on these two little gals.  They made them their very own living quarters, seperate from the others.  They named them (one they called Love , and the other was Club for her club feet), nursed them, held them, and loved them.  Unfortunate for the little gals, this was not enough to keep them in the land of the living… they both passed away leaving my children feeling down troden.  My two eldest set off to bury the little chicks and that was the last I’d heard of it.  Until I happened upon this…

and this…

I just love my little boys, and their great big, tender, compassionate hearts!

I payed my own respects, then walked away with a smile in my heart.

  2. So sweet…reminds me of the time my dear children tried to nurse back to health a mouse that had been attacked by our cat. Of course it died and there were tears…life lessons I guess.

  3. That is soo sweet! If there is a chic heaven, ya that sounds kind of funny, you know, like a place where animals go when they die, I’m sure they feel that their short time on earth wasn’t all bad.
