Big Dutch Baby (previously titled: Breakfast With a Side of Entertainment)

Filed under: In the Kitchen — candid reflections @ 9:04 am

It’s Saturday morning, if you’re in need of a little amusement…go make this for breakfast.  If you have kids then drag them away from their cartoons and set them down in front of the oven (yah, the oven – just be sure to turn it’s light on!)  For that matter, pull yourself up a chair as well, ’cause you won’t want to miss out on the making of a Big Dutch Baby.

                                     Big Dutch Baby

5 eggs

1¼ cup milk

½ cup butter

1¼ cup flour

Preheat oven to 400º.  Melt butter in a 9×13 dish.  Blend eggs at top speed for one minute.  Add the milk on low and then slowly add the flour.  Beat for three minutes.  Pour into the dish with melted butter and bake for 20 minutes.  Top individual portions with berries and whip cream, or lemon juice and powdered sugar.  This recipe is very similar to a German Pancake.  Whatever you call it, it’s yummy!

note:  The name refers to the way the sides of the dish rise up and form what looks like a cradle – a cradle of soft, buttery goodness!
